Today is the one year anniversary of the death of Joe strummer. Those of you who have read my diary in the past know that I am a huge fan of strummers music. Not just a fan even. He really influenced me growing up. He's one of the major reasons that I am a musician and singer and not a broadcaster or photographer. I majored in broadcast journalism in college and minored in photography. Eventually switched my major to photography and quit college altogether after two years to persue music. It was because of frontmen like Joe strummer that I did this. The passion he had for what he believed in was infectious to me. And the music. I mean The Fucking Clash, not many bands before or since that have rocked so hard and said so much at the same time.
So tonight a few friends and I are going to a tribute concert for Joe at Irving Plaza in the City. It should be awesome. There are a lot of cool artists set to perform. It should be fun.
In other news , we went to a christmas party at a friends on saturday and who showed up? None other than Santa himself.(really just a friend of mine dressed up as Santa for those of you who really know about Santa). My son was totally into it. He is three now and this is the first Christmas so far that he is really getting into the whole thing. Not just the Santa part either. The whole Baby Jesus angle and everything. It's so much fun. I mean over the past, I don't know, say 15-20 years christmas had kind of lost it's luster. There is no mystery anymore. It's just been "what should I get for so and so?" and "whose house are we going to for christmas this year? You parents or my parents?" Then I had kids and it's so much fun again. It really brings me back to my childhood to see my son getting so pumped about it. I really miss those days. You know, being a kid and really believing the whole thing. Ah to be a kid again.
This christmas should be a blast.
Have to go
Later, ROB
