Beer and Turkey
It's monday and it sucks being at work. I have had only two days off in the past three weeks. The guy I work with has fallen ill so I've been covering foro him. I'm pretty spent at this point. and it's going to get worse before it gets better. Heres why. I have to work ten hour days unil wednesday and then on wednesday we
( The Band) are playing at a local bar for our annual thanksgiving eve extravaganza. That should be a great time, It always is. Here's the catch. After we are finished and we pack up all the equipment, which will be around 3:00am, the wife and kids and I are driving up to Maine to be at my folks house for thanksgiving. We thought about just leaving on thanksgiving day but the thought of sitting in traffic and turning a 6 hour trip into a ten hour trip changed our minds. I mean here on the east coast at least thanksgiving day is one of the heaviest traffic days of the year. So fuck that!. I'll take being a little tired over sitting in traffic any day.
Anyway back to wednesday night. It should be a great night. We're playing at a place called
Feuerstiens. It's a little local bar in our hometown. all of our friends and family will bw there along with the faces we only see once a year at this time. It's kind of like church on christmas eve. You see people at church that you only see on christmas eve every year. Same goes for
Feuerstiens. You see people that only come out to party on thanksgiving eve every year. It will be a wild night. Lots of drinking and dancing which makes playing so much more fun. I can't wait.
I took monday and tuesday off of next week so I have a nice long break for thanksgiving. My sister and her family will be there at my folks as well. They live in Minneapolis so it's not often that we see eachother anymore. And my brother-in-law is going to make the trip so I'll have someone to hang with. He is the best guy. He and I always have a great time together. It will be a weekend of drinking beers and watching football down in my dads new home theater ( which is totaly sick by the way). This theater is one of the coolest things I have ever seen in someones house. It even has a lobby with a popcorn machine and a nacho machine. And the sound system is state of the art. Everything from the aisle lights to the authentic theater seats withe the little cup holders in the arm rest. It even has a projection booth in case you want to watch some old 16mm films. It is a testement of our relationship with eachother(my dad and me that is). He and I always watched movies together when I was growing up. We even got jobs together at the local movie theater(where I still work) as projectionists so we could see all the free movies we wanted. Some fathers and sons watch sports together. We watch movies together. Ican remember at a very young age sitting up with my dad and watching Monty Pythons Flying Circus on PBS but only after we watched Benny Hill first. Then he would get out his super eight or his 16mm projector and we would watch old W.C. Feilds or Laurel and Hardy movies. Some of my favorites were the Three Stooges and the Little Rascals and even Buster Keaton. Oh and I can't forget Charlie Chaplin. Those are times that I will cherish for the rest of my life. So this weekend we will add to those fond memories by watching all of those old films on DVD.
Well I must get back to work. I hope everyone of you has a safe and happy thanksgiving.
Later,ROB
